A client from Thomasville recently visited Precision Audio to inquire about upgrading the audio system in this RAV4 with a new radio and speakers. The focus of wanting a new radio was to add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration to the vehicle. The new speakers would, of course, deliver better sound.
Smartphone-Connected Radio Upgrade
The client chose a Kenwood DMX706S multimedia receiver for the Toyota RAV4. This new radio includes a 6.95-inch touchscreen display that makes it easy to see what song is playing. The client can connect their smartphone with the radio to use the Siri or Google Assistant voice recognition technology to send text messages, make phone calls or choose from dozens of entertainment options. These smartphone integration systems work with Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze to provide detailed, turn-by-turn navigation directions. All three software applications consider real-time traffic information in major urban areas to avoid congestion, construction and road closures whenever possible.
Since this little SUV came with a backup camera, the client asked if we could make it work with the new radio. We used a PAC CAM-TY12 harness to adapt the stock radio connection to one that would work with the new Kenwood receiver.
The client also asked if we could make the steering wheel buttons work with the new radio. A PAC RP4.2-TY11 RadioPRO 4 radio replacement interface took care of this request while providing us with some of the necessary behind-the-scenes connections necessary to make the Kenwood function just as if it had come from the factory. A dash kit finished in the same satin gray paint as the air vents finished off the upgrade.
Rockford Fosgate Speakers Improve Music Quality
To upgrade the audio system’s sound, the client chose a set of Rockford Fosgate Punch-Series P1650 coaxial speakers. These 6.5-inch coaxial speakers feature an oversized woofer cone design for improved bass output and speaker efficiency. The 0.75-inch treated polyetherimide tweeters deliver smooth and detailed high-frequency performance with excellent off-axis characteristics. We used mounting and wire harness adapters to allow the new speakers to bolt directly to the doors without the need for any modifications to the vehicle.
Georgia’s Car Audio Upgrade Experts
After just a few hours of work, we had the audio system in this Toyota RAV4 upgraded and ready to go back to the client. Of course, on all upgrades like this, we help the client pair their phone with the radio and show them how to use the voice recognition features. We also demonstrated the functionality of the backup camera. The client was very happy! If you want to upgrade your mobile audio system’s performance or technology, drop Precision Audio in Thomasville or Bainbridge and speak to one of our Product Specialists. You can also reach us by phone or e-mail if you can’t visit the store.
