A client from Moultrie, Georgia, recently contacted the team at Precision Audio about adding a rear seat video entertainment system to his 2021 Ford Expedition Max. After talking about the features he wanted, one of our product specialists confirmed that a dual-monitor system was available that would integrate with the headrest support system. The client loved the plan, and we scheduled an appointment to complete the integration.
Advent Rear Seat Video Entertainment System
The client chose the Advent ADVSB10UHD2 entertainment system to upgrade his Ford Expedition. The system includes a pair of 10.1 table-style monitors that mount on the back of the front seats. Each monitor has a touchscreen interface and a 1024- by 600-pixel display that provides clear, detailed and bright images.
Our technicians removed the headrests and attached the mounting bracket to the top of the seats. Next, they routed the wiring for the monitors through the upper seat body, ensuring that it was away from any pressure or pinch points. Once the monitors were wired into the truck’s electrical system, the technicians tested the functionality of each monitor before installing the trim on top of the bracket and reinstalling the headrest. The video system doesn’t interfere with the adjustability of the headrest system, so there aren’t any safety concerns.
Android-Based Rear Seat Entertainment
Each of the monitors is a tablet-style computer that runs an Android-based operating system configured specifically for automotive use. There are easy-to-navigate menus to play movies from the DVD drive or the micro-SD card slot. Each monitor has Wi-Fi connectivity so that the kids can download new apps from the Google Play Store or stream videos from YouTube. The system includes a pair of wireless headphones so the kids can listen in peace. The installation kit also allows the audio to be played through the truck’s sound system. If they want to upgrade further, HDMI inputs will connect to a game system or laptop.
It’s worth noting that the power supply in each headrest is designed specifically to prevent them from resetting in vehicles that have stop-start fuel-saving systems. Some products will shut down and restart a video when the engine restarts. Kids don’t like that.
