A local Bainbridge client recently dropped by Precision Audio for some help with his Moomba boat stereo system. The client had purchased the boat with some upgraded audio equipment installed by the boat dealer. Even after several return visits to the dealership, they were unable to make the sound system perform to the expectations of the client. Frustrated with the situation, the client brought the boat to us to make it right. After a quick inspection, we knew precisely what the boat would need to sound awesome!
Moomba Boat Stereo Equipment Upgrade
We started the project by removing the existing audio equipment in preparation for new Rockford Fosgate speakers, a subwoofer and an amplifier. We mounted a Rockford Punch Series PM1000X5 amplifier to the existing amp panel on the port side of the boat. This marine-grade, five-channel amplifier can produce 75 watts of power from its four main channels and up to 300 watts from the subwoofer channel to ensure the system will sound good, even when the volume is cranked. The amp features corrosion-resistant construction and stainless-steel terminals to make it last, even if exposed to extremely humid conditions.
We used marine-grade wiring and an ignition-protected circuit breaker from Stinger to feed power to the amp and ensure the installation would remain reliable.
Rockford Fosgate Speaker and Subwoofer Upgrade
We replaced all the speakers in the boat with Rockford Fosgate Prime Series RM1652 and RM1652B coaxial drivers. These speakers are also completely weather resistant and are a perfect match for the Punch amplifier. The Rockford speakers fit perfectly into the factory speaker locations in this 21-foot Moomba Mobius LSV wakeboard boat.
To keep the music sounding great, even with the volume cranked to 11, our fabrication team created a custom subwoofer enclosure for a Rockford PM212S4 12-inch subwoofer. Once the enclosure construction was complete, we had our team spray the exterior with a healthy layer of Line-X bedliner to protect it from water damage. The enclosure is mounted securely in the storage area in front of the passenger seat on the port side of the boat.
Moomba Wakeboard Boat Audio System Delivery
After setting the sensitivity and crossover controls on the amplifier and giving the system a thorough shakedown, it was time for the client to return to Precision Audio in Bainbridge to have a listen to his new Moomba boat stereo. He was thrilled with the performance of the stereo system and loved how clear it was, even at high volumes. If you are interested in upgrading the audio system on your boat, drop by our store or send us an e-mail using our contact form for more information.
