A client from Bainbridge recently dropped by Precision Audio to inquire about upgrading the stereo system in his 2015 Chevy Silverado. After giving the vehicle a once-over, we talked with the client about what he liked about the way the factory-installed audio system worked and what he wanted to upgrade. Armed with that information, we provided him with a demonstration of the speakers and subwoofers we thought would be a good upgrade. Happy with our proposal, the client scheduled a date for our technicians to perform the installation.
Silverado Truck Rockford Fosgate Speaker Upgrade
We started by removing the front and rear door trim panels so we could remove the factory speakers to make way for new units from Rockford Fosgate. The front doors received a set of Power-Series T1 T1650-S 6.5-inch component speakers, while matching T1650 coaxial speakers made their way into the back doors. The tweeters from the front door set are mounted in the factory speaker location in the dash.
Pickup Truck Subwoofer System and Amplifier
A crucial upgrade to any sound system includes the addition of a subwoofer to provide good low-frequency performance and alleviate the need for the small speakers around the vehicle to try to produce bass. We mounted a pair of Rockford Fosgate T1S212 shallow-mount 12-inch subwoofers in an Atrend A184-12CP enclosure. This enclosure fits perfectly under the rear seat of the Silverado to provide great bass without taking up any space.
The subwoofer is powered by a Rockford T500-1bdCP 500-watt amplifier. The amp is connected to the output of the factory radio using an AudioControl LC2i interface. We used our AudioControl DM-RTA to set up the output level converter and ensure that we’d send a clear signal to the bass amp.
CamLocker Truck Toolbox
The client also asked us to order and install a toolbox for the bed of his truck. He chose a black CamLocker box with a matte black finish. This low-profile box includes a tie-down rail around the perimeter of the lid to make it easy to strap extra cargo or oddly shaped objects on top of the box. CamLocker builds each toolbox right here in the U.S.
Finished Chevy Truck Upgrade Project
With the audio system installed and dialed in, and the toolbox in place, we let the client know his Chevy Silverado was ready to roll. He loved the sound of the stereo and was excited about loading gear into his new toolbox.
