A client from Cairo recently visited Precision Audio for some help with his Reinell boat audio system. The Pioneer radio that came with the boat was starting to have some problems. After a quick look at the system and discussion with the client, he decided it would be best to replace the entire system with modern, high-performance products. We designed an audio upgrade that would use a Rockford Fosgate source unit, amplifier and speakers to provide him with great sound.
Source Unit Replacement
We removed the old radio and installed a Rockford Fosgate PMX-2 digital media receiver. The PMX-2 has a 2.7-inch full-color display that can be seen easily in bright sunlight. The unit includes a USB port to play MP3 and WMA files or keep the client’s phone charged. A Bluetooth transceiver with A2DP allows audio from almost any smartphone to stream into the system. Finally, an AM/FM receiver with Weatherband allows the client to enjoy terrestrial radio programming.
Rockford System Amplifier and Speakers
The output of the PMX-2 feeds a Rockford Fosgate PM400X4 four-channel Punch series marine amplifier. This Rockford is rated for 50 watts per channel, but can more than double that when we load it down. We installed two sets of Rockford RM1652 Punch series components in the boat. The amp powers the set of speakers in the console.
Wakeboard Tower Speakers
The final upgrade to the system would be the most dramatic. We installed a set of Rockford 8-inch PM282W wakeboard tower speakers on the Monster Tower MT2 wakeboard tower bar. The speakers are suspended in place using a set of PM-CL1 mounting clamps
These large-diameter speakers allow whoever is at the end of the towrope to enjoy the music just as much as everyone onboard the boat.
Reinell Boat Audio System Upgrades
We added a second battery and a Stinger solenoid to the boat to provide extended playtime when anchored at the sandbar. The solenoid ensures that the boat’s main battery will always have the energy to start the motor, even if the second battery is completely depleted.
After a long day’s work, this Reinell boat audio system upgrade was complete and ready to be picked up by the client. He hopped on the boat to have a listen and was immediately blown away by how much better the system sounded and how much louder it could play.
