Blakely Client Gets Chevrolet 3500 Audio System and More

A new client from Blakely brought his work truck to Precision Audio asking for a simple but dramatic upgrade to his Chevrolet 3500 audio system. We discussed what kind of music he listened to, how he listened to it and how he used his truck. We came up with a plan that would meet his needs regarding system performance, integration and budget.

Kenwood Bluetooth Radio For Enhanced Convenience And Safety

The factory radio in this Chevy just wasn’t cutting it for our client.

The upgraded Kenwood radio brings 21st technology into this Chevy truck.

We started by replacing the factory radio with a Kenwood DPX791BH 2-DIN AM/FM CD receiver. We mounted the radio using a radio kit and wire harness adapter to maintain the integrity of the factory wiring. This DPX791BH provides the customer with Bluetooth for safe and reliable hands-free conversations and crystal-clear music streaming. We interfaced the factory steering wheel audio controls to the Kenwood radio with an adapter harness from PAC.

Power Series Component Speakers For Great Sound

We treated the area around the speakers with Hushmat to help reduce any unwanted resonances.

The Power series speakers incorporated a midrange and tweeter in one driver.

After our work was completed the result was a completely stock looking door panel.

The radio powers a set of Rockford Fosgate T1650 component speakers. These unique Power Series speakers are a component design that provide maximum woofer cone area and efficiency. The tweeter is suspended above the woofer with an integrated bracket for ease of installation and smooth response through the crossover region. We applied a layer of Hushmat Sound Deadening to the doors to provide a stable and resonance-free platform for the speaker. The speakers fit beautifully behind the factory door grille for an entirely stealth look.

Great Sounding Bass From Rockford Fosgate

The customer wanted to make sure he could hear and feel all the bass in his music. We delivered that request in spades with a Rockford Fosgate Power Series T5001BDCP amplifier and a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch P3SD2-10 subwoofers. We mounted the pair of 10-inch woofers in an Audio Enhancers CREW120C10 subwoofer enclosure that was designed specifically to fit this generation of Chevrolet pickup trucks. The shallow design of the enclosure and the subwoofers allows the entire subwoofer system to fit into the vehicle behind the rear seats without taking up any usable space.

Feeding the 500 watt amplifier is a full-size 4 AWG amplifier installation kit. We always explain to our customers the benefit of using full-copper, full-size wiring – it ensures the best possible performance and reliability from their amplifiers and other accessories.

Toolbox Adds Additional Storage

While we had the truck at the shop, we installed a Cam-Locker King Size toolbox in the bed of the truck. The aluminum construction of this toolbox keeps added weight to a minimum. The cam-style locking design ensures that the contents are going to be completely secure.

System Tuning The Final Step

We wrapped this up, as with every installation we perform at Precision Audio, by setting up the system. Crossover and proper amplifier sensitivity settings will ensure that the system always sounds its best and is reliable.

When the customer returned to pick up his vehicle, he was ecstatic about the results. The detail and clarity of the new speakers astonished him.
