A client from Bainbridge contacted Precision Audio to inquire about an audio system installation on his Triton. His boat didn’t come with a stereo system. He wanted something that offers clean and clear sound, that plays loud, and has Bluetooth capability. We took a look at his boat, got some detailed measurements and created a proposal that would meet the client’s expectations and budget. He loved our plan and gave us the go-ahead to schedule an installation time.
Rockford Fosgate Source Unit and Amplifiers
As Bluetooth audio streaming was a priority for the client, we suggested a Rockford Fosgate PMX-2 digital media receiver to serve as the head unit. The PMX-2 includes an AM/FM Receiver with Weatherband so he can stay apprised of any weather warnings in the area. The radio includes a USB port for MP3 and WMA files or an Apple iPhone or iPod. We installed the PMX-2 on the left side of the console, making it easy to see and use while at the helm.
To power the system, we installed a Rockford Fosgate M600-5 amplifier in the central storage locker. This Prime series amplifier is capable of producing up to 50 watts of power per channel for the four main outputs and 300 watts to the subwoofer channel. We used stainless-steel hardware to secure the amplifier and ensure it will not come loose, even under the harshest water conditions.
Coaxial System Speakers and Dedicated Subwoofer
To ensure everyone on the boat can hear the music clearly, we installed two sets of Rockford Fosgate RM1652 coaxial speakers. We installed one set of speakers in the center console. The second set is mounted in the overhead compartment.
To ease the load on the 6.5-inch coaxial speakers, we installed a 10-inch PM210S4 subwoofer in the center console. Having a subwoofer in the system alleviates the need for the smaller speakers to try and reproduce low frequencies. They will be able to handle more power and sound better.
Triton Audio System Tuning and Delivery
We wrapped up the installation by setting the sensitivity controls on the amplifier. This ensures the client has access to all the available power without running into distortion problems. The client returned to Precision Audio to have a listen to his new audio system. He loved the way it sounded at both moderate and high volumes. We showed the client how to pair his smartphone and made sure he was comfortable with all aspects of operating his Triton audio system.
