A repeat client from Bainbridge, Georgia, came to Precision Audio looking to add some Avalanche electronic upgrades to his 2005 Chevy Avalanche. We love it when our clients trust us again and again to work on their vehicles. It shows that they appreciate the care and respect we give them.
One of our team members spent time with the client, going out to the truck to look it over and listen to the current audio system. Our team member listened as he explained his goals for the upgrades, and then asked several questions to help us formulate our ideas for him. They went back inside and spent time on operating the different source units and listening to different audio components. At that point, we worked up what we felt was the best solution for his needs, and he liked our idea, so we set an install date.
Full Featured Radio Upgrade Starts The Transformation
Right from the beginning of the conversation, we knew he wanted a navigation system to replace his current radio in the dash. We installed a Pioneer AVIC-5100NEX unit for its overall combination of performance and feature set. The client gained several new functions, putting his truck on par with a new Chevy. He now has a full-featured, turn-by-turn navigation system; Bluetooth for hands-free calling and wireless music streaming; and a USB port for all of his digital media. The internal DVD drive can play movies and CDs loaded with almost any file format, including MP3s.
In many newer vehicles, installing a new stereo system in the dash goes way beyond a simple wiring harness adapter. This truck uses what is known as a radio replacement interface, where the stock stereo communicates with the factory computer. This device allows the Pioneer unit to work seamlessly with the Chevy computer and keep all of the client’s factory devices working, such as OnStar and the steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The Pioneer unit also has a video output that we fed into the rear seat entertainment unit so he can control a movie right from the dash.
Rear Seat Passengers Now Enjoy 10″ Video Screen And DVD Player
Speaking of rear seat entertainment, our client wanted to keep his rear seat passengers entertained on trips, so we added an Audiovox AVXMTG10UA 10” overhead video unit with a built-in DVD player. A passenger can load a DVD into the overhead directly and listen through the wireless headphones, or everyone can listen through the truck’s audio system.
Speaker Upgrade Improves Avalanche Sound Quality
Now that he had a great source unit installed in the dash, Precision Audio suggested improving the sound quality in the vehicle. Speakers are the single biggest improvement you can make in most car stereo systems, so we installed a set of Kenwood KFC-X173 6.5” coaxial speakers in the front doors. They made a wonderful improvement in sound quality, even though this was such a simple upgrade. That is probably why we suggest these speakers to all of our clients.
Happy Client Loves This Avalanche Audio and Video Upgrade
When the vehicle owner returned to pick up his Avalanche, he loved the work. He admired the fit and finish, and how well everything was integrated, looking like Chevy put it there. When we turned on the new system for the first time, he was thrilled with the improvement in sound. He also thought the navigation system and rear seat entertainment were just what he was looking for.
