A repeat customer from Bainbridge recently contacted Precision about updating the factory radio in her 2014 Ford Explorer. This Explorer happened to be a base model, so it was not equipped with a backup camera or Bluetooth capabilities. She’s a traveling nurse, so she’s required to travel to and from work every day. With this in mind, we knew a radio that offered more modern smartphone connectivity would be exactly what she needed.
The Kenwood DMX1057XR was our unit of choice for this job. This Kenwood radio features a vibrant 10.1-inch floating LCD screen, with built-in Apple Carplay and wireless Android Auto. Some of the other features include HD radio, Sirius XM, Bluetooth and rear camera inputs for a backup camera. These features allow the driver to make or receive phone calls safely, listen to or send text messages, and even plan navigation routes by simply pressing a button and talking to the radio.
To begin the install, we removed the factory radio from the Explorer. Next, we used Metra’s 99-5847CH radio installation kit. This kit allows us to retain the factory radio plug and wire up our Kenwood harness properly without cutting any of the factory radio wires.
We finished the install with one of our best-selling Echomaster PCAM-10L cameras. This IP67-rated camera will withstand all weather conditions and provide a clear 170-degree view of any objects behind the vehicle. The Echomaster camera also gives the customer the option of parking lines — a great feature that makes it easier to parallel park or navigate while in reverse.
The customer was pleased with how her new radio and backup camera turned out. It was the perfect addition to her Explorer and gave her all the features she was looking for in a radio.
